Day 3 - The Final Day
The Battle of the Schools has come to a close and the dust has settled after three days of spirited competition. The final day, found the schools out in the sunshine and on the lawn at Saunders court. The event, which stood before them, was a five-part relay race.
Leg #1: put a helmet on, run through three inner-tubes, touch your team mates hand at the field edge, run back through the tubes to the other end and drop the helmet.
Leg #2: put on a helmet and spray skirt, run through the tubes, touch team mates hand, back through the tubes, and drop off the gear
Leg #3: put on the helmet, life vest, spray skirt and hold a bear can while running through the course.
Leg #4: put on the helmet, life vest, spray skirt, backpack, and hold the bear can, run through the three inner-tubes, reach the skier at the other end of the course, drop all of the equipment
Leg #5: the skier puts all the equipment on and skis across the lawn to the finish line.
The two fastest teams, continued on to the Chow Mein Chow Down presented by Panda Express.
It was a photo finish, Dental squeezed into the Chow Mein event with the fastest time, 1.57 minutes, followed by Nursing with 1.58, Pharmacy came in third with 1.59.
The Chow Down lasted for 5 munching minutes. The teams picked their five hungriest crew members to eat as much chow mein as they possibly could. With chop sticks in hand, both teams dug into the woks with speed. Nursing quickly learned that chow mein built quite a thirst and requested water. With ten seconds to go, both teams had significantly slowed their pace. The whistle blew, and the judges convenedÉ Dental was declared the Chow Mein Chow Down winners.
The points for all the events were quickly tallied and in third place with 38 points, Medicine. Taking home the silver medal with 51 points was Nursing. And the 2003 Battle of the Schools champions with an amazing 95 points was the school of Dentistry.
