| LEVELS OF COMPETITION | back to top |
| Various skill levels are offered in most recreational sports leagues. This allows teams to align themselves in a league which suits their skill level. In leagues that offer levels of competition, these are the classifications: |
| A. |
Advanced leagues are designed for teams/individuals with high skill levels, seeking intense competition and fun. |
| B. |
Intermediate leagues are available for those with prior experience in the sport seeking fun and a moderate level of competition and skill. |
| C. |
Beginner or low Intermediate leagues offer participants with little or no experience an environment to play for fun and learn the game. |
| |
Note: In some sports, it may be necessary to combine leagues due to limited entries. |
| ELIGIBILITY | back to top |
| A. |
Players must be listed on the team roster prior to participating in a game. New players must pay player fees and must show proof of payment (receipt) or league card prior to playing.
| B. |
New players may be added to your roster prior to beginning your third league match. No players may be added after that point. A team can not substitute players that are not listed and paid for on their roster.
| C. |
Team Captains and players are responsible for checking their eligibility status.
| D. |
Players/Participants must present their league card and a valid UCSF Student ID, UCSF Employee ID, Fitness & Recreation Membership ID or a Drivers License with picture ID will be accepted before each contest in order to participate. Picture identification checks occur before every game. Failure to provide an acceptable form of identification will result in not being allowed to participate in a game that day. Absolutely no exceptions will be made.
| E. |
Playoff Eligibility - A player must be on the roster and played in two regular season games. A player who could not play due to injury, must have been on the roster for at least two regular season games. Players who are substituting for an injuried player must also play in two regular season games.
| F. |
The only protest allowed is that of player eligibility.
| EQUIPMENT | back to top |
| A. |
The Recreational Sports Program will provide a game ball for each scheduled game.
| B. |
No running or non-court shoes will be allowed on the gym floor.
| FORFEITS | back to top |
| Forfeit fees help to insure that you and your teammates always have a team to play each week. |
| A. |
If a team is not present and ready to play within 5 minutes (10 minutes for Flag Football or Softball) after the scheduled starting time of a contest, a forfeit will be declared. |
| |
Exception: In Volleyball and 3-on-3 Basketball, if after five minutes the minimum number of players for a team is not present and ready to play, that team will forfeit the first game of the match. The team then has five more minutes to get their team together, or the team will forfeit the second game and the match.
| B. |
In order to claim a forfeit, the opposing team must have the minimum starting number present and be ready to play. Check each sport's rules for the minimum starting number. |
| C. |
Once a team has forfeited a given contest, they are automatically assessed a $30 forfeit fee. This fee is due before the next scheduled game and can be paid at any Fintess & Recreation Center at UCSF. A reciept must be shown to a Recreational-Sports Staff prior to the game. Payment of this fine allows a team to continue in the league and playoffs. In the event of another forfeit without notification, the team is assessed another $30 fine and may be dropped from the league. |
| D. |
A team that forfeits three times in a season will not be alllowed to play in the playoff. |
| NO REFUNDS | back to top |
| Registration will be processed once it is received by the Recreational Sports Program. No refunds will be issued once the forms are processed. If you decide to withdraw from a league before the season starts, only credit will be issued. Once league season starts, no refunds or credit will be given. |
| PARTICIPANTS WHO DON'T PLAY | back to top |
| A team must contact Recreational Sports 72 hours prior to the first game of the season if they discover a player who has been signed up on the roster will not be playing. At this point, a player of the same category (Non-Member or Member) may be added at no additional charge. There will be no monetary refunds, only exchanges of players. |
| ADDING A PLAYER | back to top |
| A. |
Teams cannot add players after the third week of play. |
| B. |
It is the Captain's responsibility to notify the Recreational Sports Program of an addition(s) to their team roster. New added players must be paid for prior to playing that evening/day. If any teams have players are not registered on the roster. The team will automatically forfeit the game even if they won. |
| C. |
In addition to being added to the roster (entry form) all players must sign a liability waiver prior to participating in any sport, activity, or event. Not until both are done will a player be added to the roster and be able to play. The Roster & Waiver binder is available at all games for players to sign and be added. |
| D. |
There will be NO changes to the schedule after the second week of play. |
| E. |
When a player has been listed on the weekly game scoresheets, they have not been added to the roster. They must complete steps B & C to be considered on the roster. |
| F. |
Replacing a Player due to Injury - Teams can REPLACE another team member for no additional charge if that person suffers a serious injury and they are unable to continue playing in the league. Team Captain must show proof, i.e. Doctors Note, that one of their players will not be able to continue because of the injury. Once that has been determined, the team is allowed to replace the injured player for another with no additional charge assuming that the player has the same affiliation, i.e. Student for Student, Member for Member, etc... If by chance the incoming player has a different affiliation, that person will pay the difference to participate in the league. |
| PLAYING ON TWO TEAMS | back to top |
| A. |
A player may only play for one team in each League. No Exceptions!! |

| POSTPONEMENTS AND RESCHEDULING | back to top |
| Postponements due to weather/field conditions will be decided by the Recreational Sports Supervisor. |
| 1. |
Information pertaining to weather related postponements will be available at the recreational sports website. |
| 2. |
Postponed games will be rescheduled when possible. |
| Rescheduling of contests needs the consent of all teams involved and the approval of the Recreational Sports Supervisor. If a team attempts to reschedule a game without prior knowledge and approval of the Recreational Sports Supervisor, the game will be an automatic forfeit with a $30 fee. It is essential that all rescheduling requests go through the Recreational Sports Supervisor. |
| 1. |
The Recreational Sports staff must be told by the Captain of the need to reschedule seven days before the game. If this lead time is not given, the game will be a forfeit and the forfeit fine will be assessed. In all other cases, 24 hours notice must be given or a forfeit will result. The Recreational Sports Office will come up with new game time options. It is then the responsibility of the requesting Captain to contact the other Captain with the new game time options. If a reschedule is agreed upon, BOTH Captains must call the Recreational Sports Office. |
| 2. |
Teams may not reschedule their own games without making the Recreational Sports Program Supervisor aware of the situation. |
