SPIRIT OF THE GAME
The joy of competing, the appreciation of an opponent's skills, social interaction, and the relief of stress are components of a successful Recreational Sports League experience. The Spirit of the Game includes playing within the spirit of the rules, harboring good will toward opponents and officials, and accepting responsibility for victories and defeats. A Recreational Sports experience with an opponent who understands the Spirit of the Game is enjoyable because it includes respect, appreciation, competition, and fun.

A.  Teams may win a lot, or lose a lot.
B.  They come to the gym with a smile, win or lose. They leave the gym with a smile.
C.  They greet their opponent, wish them luck, shake their hand.
D.  They thank the official for giving it their all.
E.  If they have a question for the officials, they ask it in a respectful manner and tone, "Can you watch their center? He's holding me inside."
F.  They help the opponent off the floor.
G.  They don't use intimidation or trash talk.
H.  They laugh at their own mistakes.
I.  They concentrate on the level of the team's play, not on whether every official's call is going their way.
J.  They let official know if he or she touched the ball when the official couldn't see it.
K.  They have more concern for the safety of their opponent than for getting a point or winning.
L.  They project a positive image in the gym and make officials, opponents, and spectators feel good about the game. It makes them want to return to play again.
M.  Quotes: "Great Play!", "How'd you do that?", "Great Game!", "Thanks, Ref!"
SCORES AND RATINGback to top 
An average of 5.5 or better is required for playoffs. Here are some examples of SOG scoring critera
8 =  Exceptional; Above and beyond.
7 =  Very good; Positive communications with officials and opposing players.
6 =  Good; No incidence of poor conduct or a team technical foul.
5 =  Few examples of poor conduct, and no unsportsmanlike penalties.
4.5 =  Forfeit fee paid, Technical foul on player, dunking or hanging on the rim
4 =  Fair; Questioned calls by officials.
Received one of the following penalties:
- Unsportsmanlike conduct penalty
- Warning or yellow card
- Technical foul
- Verbal warning (softball)

3.5 =  Forfeit fee not paid.
3 =  Poor; Team members not ejected but are very abusive to referee or staff
2 =  Player or coach is ejected for abusive remarks, two technical fouls or red card.
Team members, coach, and/or spectators persistently question officials in an abusive manner, and/or fail to cooperate with officials.
Players disregard repeated warnings against unnecessary roughness
1 =  Extremely poor conduct - abusive to referee or staff.
0 =  Player ejected or spectator asked to leave game site for striking or shoving an opponent.
Player or team is so antagonistic toward an official or opponent that the game cannot be played with proper order and control.
(This score may be given even if the incident occurs after the game and if a rating was already given)
S.O.G. Ratings may not be protested. If a team believes they received an unfair score, they may schedule an appointment to discuss their score with the league supervisor.
